I am a surfer who shoots surf photography- primarily at my home breaks in San Diego and classic breaks on in southern California. I had been away from surfing for a long time and decided to get back into surfing by taking photos of my long time good friend Dave “Smitty” Smith. Smitty is always busy these days either spending the winters (its summer down under!) in Australia or building his surf home in Mexico. So I shot anyone who was surfing. I really enjoy seeing surfers getting totally stoked seeing themselves surfing in a high-quality photograph! I have been shooting for my own enjoyment and collection and to gain experience to improve my techniques as a photographer.
My experience as a photographer has been a joy! The positive feedback I receive encouraged me to expand my creative activities. I am especially proud and grateful for the many surfers who have supported my photography by purchasing photos from the website. I am also grateful to the people who have encouraged and supported me by buying my fine art photos for their private art collections.
My photos have been published many times in magazines including SURFERS JOURNAL, LONGBOARD MAGAZINE, NALU, ON THE BOARD and other publications from around the globe. My photos have been published in the NEW YORK TIMES and LA TIMES. I am proud to say that my photos have been seen by millions of people on the TODAY SHOW on NBC. My website has received over 8 million hits since its inception!
Because I love surfing and I do this for the stoke I want to set-up my photography activity to be very inexpensive for the surfers I shoot. I think it would be cool if any surfer could potentially get afford to get a new photo several times a year or more or as they see awesome new images of themselves shredding. It would be nice to have a personal collection of your surfing expressions in high-quality surf photos. I am grateful to the businesses and individuals who support my website and photography so that I can continue to provide high quality photos to all surfers who find themselves in front of my lens. Many people also like the way my photos of the local surfing spots provide a high quality journal of the waves in our area. I want to continue to provide this service. I try to shoot surf photos on a daily basis (swell and lighting conditions permitting..) The initial plan is to update the photos to the website on a daily basis (when possible) or at least 2 or 3 days per week again, time permitting. “When I shoot, I take photos of EVERYONE (or try to) who gets a good wave. On an average day I will shoot 500+ photos. If you get a good wave, there is a good chance I will shoot it!”
